Panama Review Appeal Case: Request Filed for Early Hearing

Islamabad (November 28, 2017): A petition for early hearing of the Panama review appeal has been filed on Tuesday in Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

Barrister Zafarullah Khan filed the constitutional petition and named the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, NAB, secretary law, Secretary interior and FBR as parties.

Petitioner has requested that the April 20 verdict of apex court and JIT report in Panama leaks case have raised conundrums in people.

“How can civil and military officials working under the civilian government report against the prime minister as the decision of the Panama case has left adverse effects on politics, ethics, economic and religion that led the instability in the country,” petition told the court.Petitioner has the view that after the Panama leaks verdict foreign investors  seemed in panic and Chinese Joint Operation Committee has declared Pakistan instable country.

“Therefore, the apex court verdict of PM disqualification will be declared null and void,” it said.

On September 15, the five-member larger bench of Supreme Court on Friday rejected the review petitions of Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar against the apex court’s July 28, 2017 judgment.

It is short order, the court ruled that all the petitions filed by Sharif Family and Ishaq Dar are rejected.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa read out the one-liner judgment that states “Reasons to be recorded later, all these review petitions are dismissed.”

The larger bench conducted hearing on the review petitions for three days during which senior counsel Khawaja Harris, who appeared for Nawaz Sharif, Shahid Hamid who represented Dar, and Salman Akram Raja, who represented Nawaz’s children and Capt (retd) Muhammad Safder, advanced arguments.
