Panamagate: Att Gen closes his case, Bukhari’s rebuttal to continue tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa adjourned the hearing of the petitions seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the disclosures made in the Panama Papers.

Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali completed his deliberations tafter which the counsel of PTI Naeem Bukhari began with  his rebuttal.

Directing Naeem Bukhari to complete his rebuttal by court break tomorrow  and explaining that after him the counsel of Jamaat-e-Islami and Shaikh Rasheed will give rebuttal the court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.

When the hearing resumed today Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali continuesd with his deliberation. At the close of the hearing yesterday the court had asked the Attorney General to complete his deliberations today. Justice Khosa had also said that the court wants to complete the hearing of the case at the earliest and it would would not accept any more documents though opportunity for rebuttal would be provided.

Chairman NAB Qamar-uz-Zaman and Chairman FBR Muhammad Irshad deposed and recorded their statements.

The other members of the larger bench are Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmad, Justice Azmat Saeed Shaikh, and Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan.

Continuing his deliberations the Attorney General said that the court had asked about filing an appeal yesterday after which the record of the case was reviewed and it was found out that the loan was taken on foreign currency account. To this Justice Azmat asked the Attorney General to stick to the story if suck a story was being cooked up. Every lawyer confuses the story further, it was being told that investment was made with the Qatari and there was no mention of a foreign currency account, the Attorney General all other lawyers should have mercy on the court, Justice Azmat added.

Justice Azmat also admonished the Attorney General to give arguments befitting his position and avoid becoming a party.

When Attorney General plead the court not to link Hudabiya Paper Mill case with Panama case because there is differene in the nature of the two Justice Azmat asked that if the Hudabiya Paper Mill allegations were incorrect why is he avoiding the case and if they were correct why the said case was buried.

At one time when Attorney General said that if the court wants he would continue assisting it Justice Khosa said that he should continue doing so because the court issued notice to him.

A little later Justice Azmat addressing the Attorney General said, “the NAB died before for us here in this court yesterday, just assist the court just how far it could go.” Still later Justice Ijaz said that “what chairmen of NAB and FBR did yesterday is before us- they are not ready to do anything.”

At another time Justice Azmat called “incompetency just one of the aspect of the case.” On another occasion Justice Azmat called “incompetency just one of the aspect of the case.” The client of Makhddom Ali Khan, prime minister’s counsel, has the certified insurance policy of chairman NAB, he added.

Justice Khosa asked that “after chairman NAB’s statement yesterday could this man could even nab traffic challan of anyone.”

The counsel of PTI Naeem Bukhari started his rebuttal after Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali completed his deliberations.
