Baber Azam, Nawaz called in for West Indies test as PCB announced squad

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday announced 14-member squad for the first test against West Indies, which will start from October 13 in Dubai, as middle-order batsman Babar Azam and left-arm spinner Mohammd Nawaz have been called in for their maiden test.

Chief Selector Inzimam-ul-Haq announced the squad at a press conference held at National Stadium Karachi.

Misbahul Haq will lead the squad. Senior batsman and highest runs scorer in test cricket for Pakistan Younis Khan has already been ruled out due to suffering from dengue fever.

The team will comprise Misbahul Haq, Azhar Ali, Baber Azam, Sammi Aslam, Muhammad Nawaz, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Asad Shafiq, Yasir Shah, Wahab Riaz, Muhammad Amir, Sohail Khan, Zulfiqar Baber, Imran Khan and Rahat Ali.

The three test match series will start  from October in Dubai with day and night match. The second test match will be played from October 25 in the same ground while third test will be played  in Sharjah stadium from October 30.

Azam’s call up came right after he scored three consecutive centuries in the ODI series against West Indies, which Pakistan won 3-0.

Ifitkhar Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Hafeez, Shan Masood and Younis Khan were the players left out of the squad that went to England this summer, as Pakistan named a 14-man squad for the Dubai Test.
