LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shehryar Khan sought clarification of team management over sending back all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez after being expelled from World Cup squad following injury.
Team management responded to the PCB’s query that the decision was taken jointly by captain and chief selector as doctors advised Hafeez for three-week rest due to his leg injury.
Chairman PCB Shehryar Khan questioned the team mangement after Hafeez’s press meeting in Lahore where he expressed sorrows over being ousted from the WC squad as he was preparing for the mega-event for last four years. Hafeez claimed that he suffered minor injury on shank which could be recovered soon to ensure his availability for next WC matches but he returned back to Pakistan following orders of team management.
It is pertinent to mention here that the national cricket team is already facing troubles firstly from fitness issues and then following opening pair. Hafeez was replaced with left-hand opener Nasir Jamshed who showed disappointing performance by making only one run in the warm-up match played against England.
On the other hand, team manager Naveed Akram Cheema answered PCB that Mohammad Hafeez was advised for three-week rest by the doctors and at that time all important WC matches will be ended up which led the coach and chief selector to decide for including Hafeez’s replacement.
