Pemra Issues Show Cause Notices to Five TV Channels

Islamabad (May 18, 2018): The Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (Pemra) has issued show cause notices to five TV channels for breaching the code of conduct set by the Islamabad High court not to air lottery shows during Ramazan.

According to details, Pemra issued the notice to TV One, Geo Kahani, Filmazia and Bol TV for not following the direction set by the IHC.

The Islamabad High Court on May 09 directed to ban all programs containing lottery and gambling during the holy month of Ramazan. A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui issued these directions while disposing of a petition against the violation of the code of conduct in morning shows and Ramazan transmission by some TV channels.Anti Judi. Speeches: IHC Issues Notices To PEMRA, MinistryIn its order, Pemra directed the concerned TV channels immediately stop airing such program and submit an explanation in writing to the authority till May 25.

“If channels failed to comply with the order authority can have the right to take action against them,” Pemra said in its notice.

On May 09, the IHC bench also banned the airing of programs like ‘Neelam Ghar’ and those appearing to be like a circus show during the holy month. Justice Siddiqui noted in the order, “It is the responsibility of the state to provide an atmosphere in accordance with the teachings and requirement of Islam as set out in the Holy Quran and Sunnah. As such indecency, immorality and obscenity of any kind and nature are against the injunction of Islam and offensive to guarantees provided by an organic law of the country ie the Constitution.
