Lahore (September 19, 2017) : Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf among eight others accused were indicted in a National Accountability Bureau reference over alleged illegal recruitment in the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco).
An accountability court heard the NAB reference against Ashraf and other accused on Tuesday.
The court indicted the former PM and other accused in the case. The charges were read out to the accused, who pleaded non-guilty and opted to contest the charges.Upon this, the court directed the prosecution to produce its witnesses and evidence on next date of hearing.
Ashraf has been charged for recruiting as many as 437 people without taking merit into consideration.
The other eight people indicted in the case are Muhammad Ibrahim, Hashmat Ali Kazmi, Tahir Basharat Cheema, Malik Muhammad Razi Abbas, Saleem Arif, Wazir Ali and Shahid Rafi.
The court has summoned witnesses to record their statements. Ashraf while speaking to the media rejected all charges filed by NAB today.Along with the GEPCO scam, Ashraf is already indicted by another accountability court in Islamabad in the rental power case.
