ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday approved to hear a petition seeking a ban on Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), issuing notices to prominent leaders of the political party.
The petition filed by Mohammad Ismail, alleging MQM-P of money laundering, will be heard by a 3-member bench of ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza.
“In 2012, MQM-Pakistan sent UK£0.180 Million London to party founder Altaf Hussain. MQM has not displayed the sent amount of cash in their records. Therefore, for attempting to conceal the truth, it must be banned for “, the petition stated.
Upon petitioner’s plea, ECP sent notices to Khalid Maqbool, Wasim Akhter, Farooq Sattar, Kanwar Naved Jameel, Arshad Vohra and Khalid Maqbool, summoning them for next hearing on May 02.
