PIA wants to fly 2 old retired airplanes for Hajj Operations

National flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to bring back two retired Airbus 310 planes into service once again for Hajj operations. The two planes were retired in December 2016 after being in use for over 20 years.

The acting CEO of P[IA has written a written to Secretary Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) saying that though there is a ban on using the two planes 20 or more years old wither a one-time exemption should be allowed for flying the two planes again or a six-month extension be granted to use them. In addition, the letter, also asks that the exemption on the sue by the Saudi government should also be provided.

AbbTakk has acquired the said letter.

According to letter the two aircraft required on lease would not be added to the fleet for Hajj operations 2017 and thus the two retired planes would be made usable. The letter seeks the help of the ministry and the CAA for using the two old and retired planes and asks CAA to issue the Air Worthiness certificate for the planes.

According to sources the Aviation Division has not received the request letter.
