GILGIT: An initial investigation of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) ATR plane skidding of from runway to the unpaved area during landing at the Gilgit airport found the captain of the plane responsible for the incident.
The preliminary report stated that a minor mistake could result in a major accident and precious lives could be lost in the incident adding that the speed of the plane during the landing was much higher
The report suggested that the incident could be avoided if the captain gives the plane 360 degree round adding that the pilot landed the ATR plane on the runway after almost half of it passed by which is already a short-runway measuring 5400 feet.
Chief pilot of the PIA and safety captain Amir Aftab investigated the captain of the plane captain Maryam and first officer Waqas while the captain of the plane admitted that the plane speed was so much high at the time of landing and she could not control the plane due to high speed.
First officer Waqas also admitted that the plane speed was high at the time of landing at the Gilgit airport while the national carrier safety management system will prepare recommendations and present it to the CEO on Monday.
