A light aircraft carrying officials of EU border agency Frontex crashed shortly after take-off from Malta killing at least five people, foreign news agency reported.
The crash which is Malta’s worst peacetime plane accident occurred at about 05:30 Greenwich Mean Time, as the plane was heading for Misrata in Libya.
The plane can carry around 10 people. Rescuers are searching for survivors if any.
There was no immediate news on the nationality of the victims.
