PM Abbasi Inaugurates LNG Import Terminal At Port Qasim

Karachi (November 20, 2017): Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi along with his cabinet members and Governor Sindh on Monday visited Port Qasim and inaugurated Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Abbasi said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government completed all the projects it started and assured to continue steps for the elimination of energy challenges.

He said that LNG terminals will help to meet the growing demand of energy as more gas-based power plants are coming online.

The Prime Minster said construction of LNG terminals will boost economy and industry in the country and more terminals will be set up in future.

He said that the country is on the path of development and the industry is growing with 5.3 percent GDP which is expected to rise to 6 percent in the next financial year.

The Prime Minister said the government has successfully completed all the projects that we had started and completion of second LNG terminal in a short time is also a proof.He said the terminal will help overcome the gas shortage in the country that had affected consumers, industries and fertilizers sector.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said a coal based power plant of 1300 megawatt is under construction while more plants are also in pipeline.

He said that three gas based power plants will soon be initiated in the country.

He said the demand for LNG is increasing and setting up of the second terminal without government guarantee is manifestation of confidence of the market.

He further lauded efforts of Iqbal Z. Ahmed for the completion of the terminal and said that industry and consumers were getting badly affected due to outages. Gas will be produced in large amount due to this LNG terminal, he added.The premier further said that government’s duty is to provide regulatory framework instead of doing business.

The LNG terminal, a project of Pakistan Gas Company Limited, has been completed in a short period at a cost of 50 billion rupees and will facilitate in transporting LNG to the industries.

PM Abbasi reached Karachi on a two-day visit on Sunday. He will also lay foundation stone of another part of power project at the Port Qasim today.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday.

According to the sources, the two discussed the ongoing development projects in the province,  which are funded by the federal government, as well as the present political situation of the province and country.Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair was also present in the meeting.

Earlier, Radio Pakistan reported that the premier said the federal government will complete all development projects in Sindh, including in Karachi.

He reportedly made the comments in a meeting with the governor.

Matters of law and order, ongoing development projects and trade activities were discussed in the meeting.

The premier said Karachi is the lifeline of the country and steps are being taken for durable peace and law and order in the city.

The governor informed the prime minister that after the completion of projects under Karachi Development Package, the problems of citizens will be resolved to a great extent.PM Abbasi Arrives in KarachiEarlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in Karachi on two day visit.

According to details, PM Abbasi was received by Governor Sindh Mohammed Zubair and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah upon his arrival.
