Karachi (April 23, 2018): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed to provide gas to the K-Electric to overcome excess power outages in the city which it claimed were due to gas load shedding from SSGC and also ordered to resolve water and other issues of the city within 15 days.
The prime minister made this decision during a meeting of the cabinet committee on power and energy which was attended by Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair Umar, Advisor to PM on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Miftah Ismail, Minister for Power Awais Leghari and representatives of SSGC and KE.

The meeting discussed in-depth issues faced which had caused excessive load shedding in the city and both the representatives of KE and SSGC gave their reasons for the excessive load shedding and shortage in gas supply.
Talking to media after the meeting, the prime minister said that they had provided the KE with their desired gas supply and now the power outages issues in the city would be resolved.“I have also directed the KE officials to resolve their issues and agreements with the SSGC in 15 days,” he informed.
He said that the electricity load shedding was not due to any disputes between the federal and provincial government and they would resolved the issue of water and other issues of the city jointly.“The city will receive its due share of water to overcome water scarcity but the power outages was a key issue which was resolved initially as it also affects the water supply,” he said.
The prime minister also rubbished aside any plan to take K-electric in government control and termed the electricity theft as one of the major causes behind power outages. “How could a system having 40 percent theft could be run properly and who would bear these losses,” the minister said this in respond to a query pertaining to elimination of load shedding from the city and added that it is only linked with 100 percent bill payment.
