PM Directs to Carry out Minimum Load Shedding in Ramzan

Islamabad (May 29, 2017) Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed concerned authorities to carry out minimum load shedding during Ramzan and extend maximum relief to the power consumers.

The Prime Minister presided over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy to deliberate over the load shedding situation in the country.

Ministry of Water and Power while briefing the meeting informed that no unannounced or extra load shedding was being carried out in any part of the country.

Upon this, the Prime Minister directed the ministry to carry out minimum load shedding in Ramzan.  He added that the government had the reaisation of people problems due to shortage of energy.

He pledged that the government would not rest until ensuring relief to masses.  Expressing anger over the current schedule of load shedding, the Prime Minister directed the authorities not to carry out load shedding in Sehar and Iftar timings.

The meeting was informed that by March next year an additional 9,107 MW electricity would  be available in the transmission system.

Keeping in view the urgency of the situation, the Prime Minister has called another meeting of the committee tomorrow.

Secretary Water and Power briefed the meeting that Bhikki and Haveli Bhadur Shah plants were facing normal mechanical problems in some of their turbines which were being resolved.

It was further informed that monitoring of power generation and distribution systems is being undertaken regularly with physical and field monitoring of 270 projects.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources briefed the committee regarding new gas pipelines being built for LNG from Karachi to Lahore.
