PM expresses satisfaction over SC’s taking up of Panama issue

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the taking up of Panama leaks’ by the Supreme Court, saying that the judiciary will decide the matter as per constitution and law.

Addressing the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad he said that the government said that the government had written letter to the Supreme Court and carried out legislation, besides constitution of parliamentary committee over the issue.

Nawaz Sharif said that those agitating wanted to resolve the matter on the streets. He thanked the people of Pakistan for rejecting the politics of street agitation.

The Prime Minister said that he has directed his counsels not to challenge the maintainability of Panama Petitions. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appreciated the efforts of interior minister for handling onslaught and lock down in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister also commanded role of law enforcement institutions in establishing writ of state.

Interior minister said that he performed his duty under the guidance and leadership of the Prime Minister.  He lauded the performance of police and FC who stood by state and law despite the lock down and onslaught.

The cabinet meeting discussed twenty-five point agenda including Repatriation and Management Policy for Afghan Refugees, National Maritime Policy and confirmation of decisions taken by the Economic Coordination Committee at its meeting held on 31st of last month. Cabinet offered fateha for martyrs of Quetta police training tragedy and loss of life in Gadaani ship.

The federal cabinet has constituted a committee to investigate explosion at Gaddani ship breaking yard. The committee will be headed by Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain.

The Cabinet approved intergovernmental framework agreements for Sukkur-Multan section of Peshawar-Karachi motorway, and for Havelian-Thakot section of Karakoram Highway.

It also approved establishment of electronic data exchange under Pakistan-China free trade; understandings for cooperation between ministries of food of Pakistan and Belarus; and understandings for cooperation for training of manpower between Pakistan and Oman and human development between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

It endorsed Paris Agreement about climate change and the signing of regulations for defence cooperation between Pakistan and Czech Republic.

The Cabinet, however, deferred decisions on return of the Afghan refugees and the administrative matters about and National Maritime Policy 2015 for a broader consensus.
