PM Has no Role in PCB’s New Constitution

ISLAMABAD: Following approval from Federal Cabinet and a formal notification from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, the new constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now come into effect.

According to the new constitution, the Prime Minister of Pakistan can no longer remove PCB Chairman from his position. The notification has been issued under subsection 1 of section 3 and 4 of the Sports Development and Control Ordinance 1962.

The PCB Chairman will now be answerable to the Board of Governors and there will be a Chief Executive Officer as well.

According to the 2014 constitution, the PM, who is the Patron-in-Chief of the PCB, could dissolve the BoG and remove PCB Chairman. Prime Minister can now provide policy guidance to the cricket’s governing body.

The new constitution focuses on reshuffling executive powers within the PCB, a new domestic structure and making PCB an independent body without interference from the government.
