PM Khan Lauds China For Making Gwadar ‘Trade Centre’

BEIJING: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday handed Chinese government the credit for making Pakistan’s Gwadar a ‘trade centre’ such quickly.

Addressing the Second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, Premier Imran Khan reiterated country’s pride in being a partner in the Belt and Road Forum, adding that the project will help diminish the energy crisis in Pakistan.

He added that the participation of several International leaders in the event was an array of hope in times of despair.

“Pakistan has been China’s partner in Belt and Road Project since the beginning. Both countries are moving to the next phase of CPEC. Pakistan wants to increase its cooperation with China in sectors of health, agriculture, railway, information technology, energy and basic structures”, PM said.

He added that promotion of Belt and Road Tourism and culture is also an important part of the project for both countries.

Mentioning current federal government’s efforts of ending corruption, he affirmed that Pakistan is taking major steps to eliminate white collar crimes in all of its forms, claiming that they hinder the development process.

Earlier in the ceremony, Chinese President Xi Jinping Friday opened Second Belt and Road Forum.

Addressing the opening session, Xi said BR projects need to be transparent and fiscally sustainable.

There will also be “zero tolerance” for corruption, Xi said at a Belt and Road summit, adding that the initiative “is not an exclusive club”.
