PM Nawaz arrives in London

LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in London on Wednesday to inaugurate the Pakistan-UK Energy Dialogue and Investment Conference.

According to the Foreign Office, the Investment Conference will be attended by CEOs and leading figures of the British energy sector.

The conference will focus on assisting Pakistan in seeking investments to address its energy needs through shared expertise and best practices.

Speaking to the press before his departure to London from Berlin, the premier said Pakistan had signed agreements worth billions of dollars with China in energy and infrastructure development.

He reiterated that the reduction in petroleum prices — which his government had done to provide public relief — was unprecedented.

He stated that the country has sufficient resources to exploit for its population. He also added that the government would make every possible effort to facilitate the people.

The premier’s state visit to Germany involved a high profile meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel where she reiterated conditional German promises to invest in Pakistan.

The conditions the Chancellor stated related to a safer security environment and improvements to the legal system to protect investors.

PM Nawaz focused his statements on Pakistan’s efforts in counter-terrorism, its public’s value of German higher education and Pakistan’s shared political and economic relation with Germany.

He was received in Berlin with a German military guard of honor.
