PM never said load-shedding will end in 2017: Kh Asif

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Wednesday told National Assembly that the current power crisis would be overcome in the next eight to 10 days.

He was responding calling attention notice in the National Assembly on Wednesday regarding the prolonged power outages in the country.

The minister said that the Prime Minister had never said loadshedding would be ended during the current year.

He added that by the end December this year, 6000 MW power will be added to the national grid which will bridge the gap between supply and demand.

He told the house that transformer of the area was removed where there was no recovery.  He added that this had led to improvement in recovery of HESCO, SESCO .

The minister said that supply situation would gradually start improving from tomorrow.

Khawaja Asif said some power plants of 2200 megawatts were closed for the maintenance purpose.

He said there will be no unannounced load shedding after the 1st of next month.

The Minister said that a power plant of 760 megawatt is being inaugurated in Sheikhupura today. He said currently the country was facing power shortfall of 5200 megawatt while 6400 megawatt of power will be added to national grid by the end of this year.
