Islamabad (October 10, 2018): Prime Minister Imran Khan will formally launch the ‘Five Million Housing Project’ today.
PM Imran will also announce the policy on five million cheap houses on October 10 (today). According to details, the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the prime minister Imran Khan on October 5.

The meeting had decided that the five million houses will be completed in two phases as 2.5 million houses will be constructed in each phase.
PM Imran had directed to complete the project in the given period. the meeting had pondered over the construction of houses on Malaysian model houses.According to policy, the houses will be comprised of three, five and seven marla and will be provided to the citizen on 15 to 20 years installments.
Imran Khan said that provision of five million housing, equipped with all basic facilities, provision of clean water and regularization of slums is a foremost priority of the Government.Prime Minister directed the committee to finalize its recommendations regarding formulation of a comprehensive plan of action with delineated timelines within two weeks for early rollout of the Housing Program.
PM hinted that five million houses will also give employment opportunity, however, any negligence or delay will not be tolerated in this regard.
Earlier on September 27, this was decided during a meeting of the Task Force on Housing in Islamabad that Prime Minister would formally launch ‘Five million Housing Project’ in October.
The process of registration will also commence with the launch of the project.
The Task Force apprised the Prime Minister about the progress made so far in formulating a comprehensive plan for execution and monitoring of the ‘Five million Housing Project’ for the low income groups as well as regularization of Katchi Abadis.The Prime Minister said that besides utilizing expertise of both the public and the private sectors, successful financial models including that of Akhuwwat would be replicated to ensure success and affordability.
The Prime Minister directed the Task Force to expedite finalization of the plan including the legislative framework for its consideration by the provincial and the federal government.
Imran was informed that a comprehensive housing policy framework with a holistic approach and multifaceted initiatives was being developed to create conducive environment and offering one-window solution to the local as well as foreign investors.
It was informed that an apex body would be created for the purpose to ensure seamless execution of the project.Lt Gen Moazzam Ajaz gave a detailed presentation on the military’s experience in catering to housing needs of its personnel. He also offered army’s expertise and assistance in implementing the project.
