PM to leave for China today to attend OBOR Global Moot

Islamabad (May 12, 2017):  Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for China today to attend the two-day international forum regarding One Belt One Road China’s Project.

PM will also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Chinese counterpart.

The invitation to attend the One Belt One Road Conference was extended to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by the Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On the first day of the forum, the Prime Minister will attend the inaugural session of the One Belt One Road Summit, the plenary meeting of high-level dialogue and the state banquet.

He will also attend the leaders’ roundtable sessions on the second day of the forum.

High-ranked representatives from around 28 Countries are expected to attend the One Belt, One Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The One Belt One Road plan aims to connect Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa with a vast logistics and transport network, using roads, ports, railway tracks, pipelines, airports, transnational electric grids and even fiber optic lines. The scheme involves 65 countries, which together account for one-third of global GDP and 60 percent of the world’s population, or 4.5 billion people, according to Oxford Economics.

This is part of China’s push to increase global clout — building modern infrastructure can attract more investment and trade along the “One Belt, One Road” route. It could be beneficial for western China, which is less developed, as it links up with neighboring countries. And in the long run, it will help China shore up access to energy resources.

The policy could boost the domestic economy with demand abroad, and might also soak up some of the overcapacity in China’s heavy industry, but analysts say these are fringe benefits.

Twenty-eight heads of state and government, over fifty leaders of international organizations, over one hundred ministerial-level officials and over 1,200 delegates from various countries and regions will participate in the forum.

During his stay in Beijing, the Prime Minister will also hold important meetings with top Chinese leadership, particularly, President, Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Kaqiang to further promote bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the country and his participation in the forum will further boost the ongoing economic cooperation between the two countries.
