Islamabad (June 07, 2017): Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf will go to Kazakhstan to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) today.

The two-day SCO summit is going to be held at Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

Foreign Office Spokesman Nafeez Zakaria said that Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf will represent Pakistan in the Heads of State Council of the SCO.

He added that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would participate in the two day Meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at Astana in Kazakhstan beginning on Thursday.

The spokesman further said that the Heads of State Council was the highest decision-making body of SCO which meets annually.

He said that Pakistan had observer status at SCO and would become its full member at Astana.  The decision, in principle, to give membership to Pakistan was taken by the SCO Heads of States meeting held at Ufa in Russia in 2015, he added.

The spokesman said that on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, the Prime Minister would hold a number of bilateral meetings with other participating leaders.

Besides the SCO Summit, Kazakhstan is also hosting the International Expo 2017, in which more than 100 countries including Pakistan are participating.

The Prime Minister along with other participating SCO Heads of States will also attend the inaugural ceremony of the Expo.
