PML-N Leaders, Family Members Meet Nawaz, Maryam In Jail

Rawalpindi(July  19, 2018): Pakistan Mulsim League Leaders’ and the members of Sharif family on Thursday held first meeting with former PM Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in Adyala Jail after their arrest.

Pervez Rasheed, Ayaz Sadiq, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz, Governor Sindh, Muhammad Zubair, Raja Zafarul  Haq, Khurram Dastagir, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Maryam Aurangzeb and others met the former PM.

Later on, addressing media outside Adyala Jail, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed lamented that today was the first time that Maryam Nawaz met her father.Rasheed stated that it is with a heavy heart that he informs the media that today is the first time the father-daughter duo met — a fact which he termed was against jail norms.

The senator claimed that the incarcerated Sharif family is in the exact same spirits as they were before being jailed.

Meanwhile, the former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb conveyed message of Nawaz Sharif while addressing media to the people and asked them to vote for PML-N. She said, “Your Quaid and his daughter are brave.”On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif has been given a place for walk in the jail, whereas he has also been provided a cook and doctor.

Aurangzeb also said both Nawaz and Maryam were in solitary confinement in their cells. “All the news items stating that the duo has food together are false,” she claimed. She went on to say Maryam had been allowed to meet Nawaz for 15 minutes and her husband for half an hour on Sunday [July 15].

The federal cabinet on Wednesday retracted an earlier decision to hold the ousted premier’s trial inside the jail, allowing him to have an “open trial” in the two corruption references pending with an accountability court.

Jail Administration Cancels Lawyers’ Meeting With Nawaz

Earlier today, authorities of the Adyala Jail cancelled a pre-arranged meeting between the lawyers and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam.

The legal team, which includes Khwaja Harris, Saad Hashmi, Zafir Khan and Amjad Pervaiz were reportedly conferring with jail authorities for the past two days after permission was denied on July 18.

Deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s legal team was informed that they would be able to meet their clients at 11am today, but received a call from the jail superintendent while they were on the way to Adiala prison informing them of cancellation.

The lawyers were told by the jail authorities that they would be informed of a new time for the meeting later.

Security of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Increased In Adyala Jail

Earlier on July  17, security of Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz was increased in Adyala Jail.

According to the sources, 6 personnel have been deployed at the security of Nawaz Sharif, while woman deputy superintendent along with 6 women personnel have been placed at the security of Maryam Nawaz.

Sources claimed that duo of father and daughter has been informed to be vigilant.

Sources have also revealed that the Jail superintendent will inspect the meal and the water provided to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz by himself.

On July 13, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested and shifted to jail after they landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 11 years in prison by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court over his family’s purchase of luxury apartments in London, whereas, his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years in prison.

On July 09, Captain Retired Safdar, the son in law of former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif shifted to Adyala Jail.

A NAB team reached the Federal Judicial Complex where it presented the convict in an accountability court.

The Avenfield reference is one of the three corruption references, filed by the National Accountability Bureau(NAB) on orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), which disqualified Nawaz Sharif, ousting him from the premiership and finding him guilty in the Panama Paper case verdict.

The verdict came at a time when Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif were in London to see Begum Kulsom Nawaz Sharif who has been undergoing treatment for cancer.
