Lahore (August 14, 2018): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday nominated Hamza Shehbaz for the position of Punjab chief minister. PTI has yet to announce its candidate for the slot.
The party’s parliamentary committee unanimously chose Hamza for the CM slot and Chaudhry Iqbal as Punjab Assembly speaker. Both names have been formally announced.
MPA elects of the Punjab Assembly will take oath tomorrow (August 15). The speaker and deputy speaker will be elected on August 16, while the election for the CM will be held a day after on August 17.Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf has not yet revealed the name of contender for the major slot.
Celebrating victory in July 25 general elections, the PTI has so far failed to nominate its chief ministers in KP and Punjab. Intra-party consultations are under way to nominate suitable candidates for the slot of chief minister in the two provinces.
Though, over a dozen big-wigs of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are in the running for the coveted slot of Punjab’s chief minister, but there is a strong chance a dark horse will occupy this position. Report suggests that prime minister in waiting Imran Khan is looking for a ‘stainless’ party member for the top slot in Punjab.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is leading the number game for Punjab government formation with 134 seats after independents and 8 members from PMLQ join then and now the tally reaches 142 but still 7 short of magic number of 149.
At least 149 seats are required to form government in Punjab. PML-N had secured 129 seats and PTI had taken 123 seats in recently held general elections. However, the count for PTI has escalated to 134 after its leaders managed to convince the independent MPAs-elect.
Earlier on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf nominated Dost Muhammad Mazari for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Punjab assembly. Mazari won election from Punjab Assembly constituency PP-297 Rajanpur-V by securing 56,113 votes.
The party has already nominated Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Pervaiz Elahi for speaker and PTI leader Chaudhry Sarwar would serve as the governor of Punjab.
