PML-N Issue Request For Shahbaz’s Production Order

Islamabad (November 16, 2018): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders have submitted a formal request to National Assembly Speaker (NA) Asad Qaisar to issue production order of Opposition Leader in NA Shehbaz Sharif.

As per details, members of the main opposition PML-N submitted an application in the office of National Assembly Speaker, requesting Speaker Asad Qaiser to issue a production order for opposition leader and party president Shahbaz Sharif.

The application has been signed by Khawaja Asif, Shiza Khawaja and Marriyum Aurangzeb requesting Speaker Asad Qaiser to issue production order for Shahbaz Sharif so that he could attend the upcoming session of the National Assembly.The PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif is under NAB custody with regard to charges pertaining to Ashiana Housing scheme.

Physical Remand Extended

Earlier on November 10, AC in Lahore granted the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a 14-day extension in the physical remand of Shehbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scheme case.

The court, however, rejected NAB’s appeal for physical remand of Shehbaz in Ramzan Sugar Mills case. The bureau arrested the former Punjab chief minister in the sugar mills case on Saturday during the hearing.

NAB had requested a 15-day remand extension in Ashiana scheme case and had also requested the court for his physical remand in Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

Sharif who is currently in NAB’s custody was flown from Islamabad to Lahore for the appearance. The PML-N president has been in NAB’s custody since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

During the hearing, NAB prosecutor told the court: “We are arresting Shehbaz Sharif today on November 10 in Ramzan Mills case.”

However, Amjad Pervaiz, Shehbaz’s legal counsel, said that the new request has been filed on the wrong basis. “The law states that an individual arrested in one case will be considered being arrested in other cases,” he mentioned.

To this, NAB prosecutor said that the new the case is different and the bureau has the proofs in the ongoing case.

Shehbaz Sharif arrested

He was arrested on October 5 after appearing before the NAB team in Saaf Paani Company scheme. NAB said Shehbaz failed to satisfy the investigation team regarding a tender awarded to a private consultancy firm and was therefore arrested.

The anti-graft watchdog said the firm did not conduct any kind of survey but nevertheless was provided a lucrative sum of 1.5 billion rupees. It added that Fawad Hassan Fawad, the principal secretary of former premier Nawaz Sharif, had become an approver in the case.

Fawad, in his statement, had claimed that he had awarded a contract to a “favourite firm” in the Rs14 billion Ashiana Housing project at the behest of Shehbaz Sharif.

The anti-graft agency said that the contract for the housing scheme was won by a construction company titled Chaudhry Latif and Sons but Sharif cancelled it and later on awarded the contract to Lahore Casa Developers – a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt) Limited, which is said to be owned by former Railways minister Saad Rafique.
