PML-N to Appoint Senator Yaqoob as Acting President

Lahore (August 16, 2017): Ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to appoint Senator Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar from northeast Balochistan’s Loralai district as acting president, Abbtakk News reported on Wednesday.

A high-level meeting held to conclude consultations over appointment of interim president, where current PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was given green signal for Senator Sardar Yaqoob Nasar. CWC of the political party is also expected to give its final approval on Thursday.The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on August 8 has issued a notice to the ruling political party, asking the party to appoint a new president as a disqualified person could not hold party office under political parties order 2002.

It should be mentioned here that Senator Yaqoob Nasar is currently performing intra-party duties as Balochistan provincial president and PML-N’s central vice president.

The party’s senior leadership was also mulling over the strategy in the current political scenario that occurred after the Supreme Court (SC) verdict for Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification and later Grand Trunk Road (GTR) rally.

According to reports, PML-N central leadership and legal experts are reviewing the situation particularly contacts to other political leaders and grand dialogue at Nawaz Sharif’s residence Jati Umra, Raiwind.

Earlier on Tuesday, a session of PML-N consultative meeting was held in Raiwand with the chair of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif where they discussed the party’s internal affairs and country’s overall political situation.

The meeting was attended by PML-N top brass including Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, Railways Minister Saad Rafique, MoIT Anusha Rehman, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Hamza Shahbaz, Zahid Hamid, Irfan Kirmani, Irfan Siddiqui and others.

It decided that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will address a public meeting in Multan “within 10 days” as part of the campaign against his ouster from power by the apex court.

It is noteworthy to mention here that PML-N leadership, during the phase of GTR rally in Lahore, decided to expand campaign against Nawaz Sharif’s ouster in other major cities of all provinces.
