Islamabad(July 25, 2017): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday decided to filed Asif Kirmani as its candidate in the by-election on a general seat of Senate from Punjab scheduled for August 8, 2017.
Sources said that PML-N leadership had decided to give party ticket to Kirmani for election on a general seat from Punjab, which fell vacant due to the resignation of former PPP leader Baber Awan.

Baber Awan had resigned from Senate after joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a few weeks ago.
Following his resignation, last week Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the schedule of Senate bye-election for general seat from Punjab.As per schedule, the polling will be held on August 8 (Tuesday from 9am to 4pm) at Provincial Assembly building, Lahore.
Public notice inviting nomination papers will be on July 21, nomination of candidates will be on July 25 (9am to 4pm) while scrutiny of nomination papers will be on July 27 (from 10am to 4pm).Similarly, last date for filing of appeals will be July 31 (9am to 4pm), disposal of appeals on August 2, last date for withdrawal of candidature will be August 3 and publication of list of contesting candidates will be on August 3.Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Sharifullah has been appointed as Returning Officer while three polling officers included Majid Sharif Dogar (Director Elections), Abdul Hameed, (Deputy Director Admin) and Roy Sultan Bhatty (Deputy Director Elections).
