PML-N Determined To Form Government in Punjab

Lahore (July 27, 2018): The top brass of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday decided that former Punjab CM and party president Shehbaz Sharif would be the leader of opposition in National Assembly.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the party’s central office in Model Town.

During the meeting, the party leadership also decided that Hamza Shehbaz would be the strong candidate for the post of Punjab’s chief minister.

Party leader Saad Rafique will be named opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly if the PML-N fails to form a government in the province.The PML-N has also started making efforts to form the government in Punjab.

In Punjab Assembly, PML-N is leading the tally with 127 seats followed by PTI 123, independents 29, PML-Q 7, PPPP 6, and one each by Balochistan Awami Party, Pakistan Muslim League (F) and Pakistan Awami Raj.

Meanwhile, according to the data shared by the election commission of Pakistan, PTI has secured 115 seats in the National Assembly followed by PML-N, 62, PPP, 43, independents, 14, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, 11, MQM, 6, Pakistan Muslim League-Q, 5 and two each by Balochistan National Party and the Grand Democratic Alliance.Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, leader Hamza Shahbaz on Friday said the party will form a government in Punjab.

This he stated while addressing a presser in Lahore today.

Thanking the public for voting for PML-N, Hamza noted the party has emerged as the biggest in Punjab after winning the most seats in the provincial assembly, and will therefore form a government in the province.

“PML-N has emerged as the biggest party in Punjab [in the elections], and we will form a government in Punjab. We will fight back if any obstacles are [hurled in our way],” he said.

Hamza Shehbaz reminded the public that the PTI was allowed to form its own government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2013 elections.He slammed the ECP for the delay in election results, and mocked its Results Transmission System (RTS) software which, according to the electoral body, faced a technical glitch during the vote count.

“The RTS [system] failed despite Rs21 billion invested in it,” he remarked, adding that it was the first time in the country’s history that election results had been delayed by more than a day.Hamza resolved that the PML-N will continue to fulfill its constitutional duties under the leadership of Nawaz and Shehbaz.

“Despite our reservations [over the results], we want democracy to flourish in Pakistan,” he said.

In Punjab Assembly, PML-N secured 127 seats, while PTI is following with 117 seats. Meanwhile, independent candidates secured 27 seats of the Punjab Assembly.On the other hand, Independent candidates have taken centre stage as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf started to contact them for the alliance to form the government in Punjab.

PTI gained the majority of seats in the general polls in the uper house, National Assembly, while In Punjab Assembly, Khan’s party gained 117 seats.

Independent candidates who had secured 27 seats of the Punjab Assembly so far become the centre of the attention for the formation of governemnt.
