Police File Charge Sheet Against Sharjeel Memon

Karachi (September 18, 2018): Police filed charge-sheet against former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon in a case pertaining to recovery of three bottles of liquor from his hospital room.

The investigation officer of the case submitted the charge-sheet to the Judicial Magistrate South.

The PPP leader, his three servants – Shakar Din, Mushtaque Ali and Muhammad Jam -, Central Jail, Karachi assistant superintendent Naseem Ahmed and Habib Ahmed have been named as accused in the investigation report.

Memon is in jail, his servants are out on bail and the remaining two accused have been declared absconders.

According to the report, three bottles of liquor and two packs of cigarette were recovered from the PPP leader’s VIP room at Ziauddin Hospital.

Fifteen witnesses have been listed in the charge-sheet.Discovery of Alcohol is Personal Matter Not Party’s: SharjeelEarlier on September 08, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the case pertaining to a raid on his hospital room during which alcohol bottles were discovered was his “personal matter”.

The former Sindh information minister was presented before an accountability in Karachi in a corruption case. However, the hearing of the case was adjourned till September 26 owing to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor’s absence.

However, outside the court premises, Memon was asked questions by media representatives pertaining to the discovery of alcohol bottles from his hospital room.

When asked to comment on the raid on his sub-jail, Memon responded, “Will not say anything till the inquiry is completed.”

Responding to another question as to why the PPP did not defend him on the issue, Memon said, “This is my personal matter and not the party’s.”

Earlier, authorities again collected blood samples of MPA Sharjeel Memon along with his DNA samples on Friday, said authorities.

The decision was taken, days after a test report said no trace of alcohol was found in his blood samples.

According to sources, officials collected Memon’s blood samples at Central Jail Karachi, which would be cross-checked with the samples collected earlier.

His DNA samples have been sent to Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) and a local laboratory. They said the purpose of sending one of the DNA samples to the PFSA was to ensure transparency of the test.

On Monday, a test report by Chief Chemical Examiner, Dr Zahid Ansari, revealed that the bottles did not contain alcohol. It said one of the bottles contained honey and the other cooking oil.

Further, a test report revealed that no trace of alcohol was found in the blood samples of Memon.Earlier on September 01, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar discovered alcohol bottles and drugs during a surprise visit to Memon’s room at a private hospital in Karachi.

Following the raid and examination, Memon was shifted to Central Prison Karachi.
