Peshawar (June 5, 2017): Inspector General Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday constituted a committee to hold inquiry against police officers and personnel for negligence in light of the recommendations of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which probed Mashal Khan murder.
The JIT in its report had questioned the role of police. It criticised police’s inability to use the riot police in time. The reports further said that junior officers also did not help senior officers during the situation.

The JIT had recommended a separate, high level inquiry by the police department.
In light of the recommendations of the JIT report, IGP constituted a committee which will hold inquiry into police role in the incident and would recommend actions against those found responsible of any negligence or wrong doings.
It is to be mentioned here that the 13-member joint investigation team (JIT) had concluded in its investigation that a group in the university incited a mob against the Mardan university student on pretext of blasphemy.
In its proceedings, the JIT investigated the role the police played in the incident and in its report, recommended an inquiry to probe the negligence of police officials.
