Power shortfall in country rises to 6,000MW leading to 10hrs daily load shedding

ISLAMABAD: With the rise in mercury the power shortfall in the country has increased to 6,000 MW leading to  over eight hours load shedding in the cities and 10 to 12 hours in rural areas.

Sources said that at present the total power generation stands at 10,000 MW while  the demand is 16,000 MW.

They added that the generation of public sector companies has come down to just 2,000 MW while the independent powers producers are contributing 6,000 MW to the national grid. The power generation from hydel source has been 2,00 MW.

With the increase in mercury the demand has upped while generation has come down, leading power outages in rural areas to increase to 10 to 12 hours daily. In cities,  eight hours long load shedding is being carried out.

In Karachi, some areas are braving eight hours daily load shedding. It is feared that with increase in mercury, the power crisis could be worsen.
