JHANG: The by-election in PP-78 provincial constituency of Jhang has begun.
DPO Humayun Masood Sindhu and Col Nasir of Rangers have visited various polling stations to check the security of the staff of these polling stations.
A total 171 polling stations were established for the election in the constituency. 17 out of 171 polling stations were declared sensitive.2,052 police personnel will perform security duty today in the area. While a company of Pakistan army and 700 personnel of Rangers were also deployed in the constituency.
There are 216,562 registered votes. Tough completion is expected between Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) candidate Maulana Masroor Nawaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nasir Ansari. While PTI’s Arfa Majeed and PPP Sarfraz Rabbani were also contesting the elections.
The seat had fallen vacant after the disqualification of PML-N MPA Rashida Yaqoob by the Supreme Court over concealing assets. Jhang DCO Ghazi Amanullah said that it will be a holiday across the district.
