ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party leader Waqar Mehdi was on Saturday elected unopposed a member of the Senate in the by-election on a vacant seat of the upper house of parliament from Sindh.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will issue a formal notification of his election shortly.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had also fielded candidates in the by-election but it withdrew their nomination papers before the polling date. A covering candidate of the PPP also withdrew his nomination papers.
The PPP workers congratulated Mr Mehdi on being elected senator unopposed.
