KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi on Saturday inaugurated a three-day multi-national Maritime Conference in connection with ongoing AMAN-2019 naval exercises being participated by 46 nations.
While addressing the event, President Alvi praised participation of 46 nations in AMAN-2019 naval exercises. He said importance of Indian Ocean has increased manifold with the presence of regional and foreign naval forces. He added that Pakistan was working for peace establishment across the region while defence capability of Pakistan Navy was evident after hosting the ongoing international naval drills.
On the occasion, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said that it was an honour to Pakistan Navy for hosting 45 nations during the ongoing naval exercises. Abbasi said establishment of a joint task force containing naval forces of all countries was need of the time to meet maritime challenges including pirates and smuggling.
The international conference is organised by National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) that will be continued for three days. Director General National Institute of Maritime Affairs (DG-NIMA) Vice Admiral Khawar Ali Shah will also expressed their view regarding maritime challenges in the event.
