President Summons Senate Session for Tomorrow

Islamabad (November 17, 2017): President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday convened the session of Upper House of the Parliament for tomorrow. 

The Senate will meet on Friday at 10:00 am at Parliament House in Islamabad.

The Upper House will approve the Delimitation Bill, which is expected to sail through the lower House of the Parliament scheduled to meet today.It is to be mentioned here that the National Assembly is set to pass the draft Delimitation Bill seeking fresh delimitation of constituencies ahead of the upcoming general elections on the basis of provisional results of the population census.

Yesterday, parliamentary leaders of different parties agreed upon the draft bill at a meeting presided over by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.The NA session has been summoned and the Bill will be passed from the lower house of the parliament.  The parliamentary leaders have arrived at a consensus regarding the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017 seeking re-allocation of seats of all national and provincial assemblies.A meeting of parliamentary leaders will be held before the National Assembly’s session will begin on Thursday to seek a formal approval from all the parties since no one from the main opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) managed to attend the meeting on Wednesday.The parliamentary leaders have also agreed to table a bill in the lower house to restore Sections 7B and 7C of the Conduct of General Elections Order, 2002 in their original form. In the Elections Act 2017, the above-mentioned sections, which relate to the status of Ahmadis, had been omitted.
