Probe into ‘Dawn Leak’: Govt constitutes 7-member committee

ISLAMABAD:  The government on Monday constituted a seven-member committee headed by Justice retired Amir Raza Khan to probe into the ‘Dawn leak’ relating to a national security meeting.

The seven-member committee will investigate as to who and how leaked the story about the national security meeting.

The seven members committee will have three intelligence agencies men: one each from ISI, IB and MI.

Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz, who has also been Register Supreme Court for three years, Provincial Ombudsman Punjab Najam Saeed, and Director FIA Dr Usman Anwar will be member of the committee.

The committee has been constituted in light of the initial probe conducted by an informal committee headed by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. It will thoroughly investigate the matter and fix responsibility.

The head of the committee is a former judge and a man of integrity while the other member Tahir Shahaz also enjoys the reputation of being a fair and clean man who had also served as Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan for three years. Director FIA Usman Anwar, another member of the committee, is regarded as clean and neat officer.

The constitution of the committee is purely a government initiative.

Earlier, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had announced that a committee headed by a retired judge would be constituted to probe the ‘Dawn Leak’. The leak relates to a national security meeting published in Dawn on October 6.

Last month, the government removed Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid from office and ordered inquiry to ascertain as to who was the source of the news that sparked a rift between the army and the government.
