Processions and Majalis of 9th Muharram Start Around The Country

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/LAHORE/PESHAWAR: Thousands of mourners have started gathering at different locations to participate in the Muharram 9 processions to pay tribute to Imam Hussain (RA) and his followers who sacrificed their lives for Islam at Karbala.

In this connection,Ulema and Zakireen will throw light on the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his great companions in their majalis.

Elaborate arrangements have been made across the country for the security of the mourning processions and majalis.

ISLAMABAD

Special traffic plans for the processions of 9th of Muharram ul Haram have also been chalked out.

In Islamabad, the biggest mourning procession will depart from Markazi Imambargah Asna Ashri, in Sector G-6/2, and pass through different imambargahs and culminate where is started from. More than 10,000 policemen have been deployed to ensure the security of different processions.

LAHORE

The main procession in Lahore will depart from Nisar Haveli, Mochi Gate. It will pass through Mohalla Chehl Bibian, Imambargah Syed Wajid Ali Shah, Sunehri Masjid, Dabbi Bazaar, Tehsil Bazaar, Ucchi Masjid, Bhatti Chowk, and then culminate at the Karbala Gamay Shah.

KARACHI

In Karachi, the main procession will start from Nishtar Park in the afternoon. It will culminate at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar via the following route: Nishtar Park, Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, back to MA Jinnah Road, Bolton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road and Hussanian Iranian Imambargah.

Snipers are positioned on rooftops and about 300 lanes connecting to Karachi’s main MA Jinnah Road have been sealed with shipping containers. The movements of the processions will be monitored on CCTV cameras too.

Sindh home department has written a letter to the interior ministry asking it to block mobile phone services along the procession routes on Muharram 9 and 10. Cellular services are expected to be suspects in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, and Larkana.

More than 7,000 policemen have been deployed across Sindh to maintain law and order during the processions. Over 10,000 policemen have been deployed in Karachi, 19,496 in Hyderabad and 17,042 in Larkana.

PESHAWAR

At least 12,000 policemen have been deployed in Peshawar capital under a comprehensive security plan.

The entry points to the district particularly the urban areas have been further strengthened and the closed-circuited television cameras (CCTV) installed in a number of places to monitor any suspicious activity.

Apart from the regular police, policewomen and officials in civvies have been deployed in different parts of Peshawar to keep a check on suspicious movement.

Police have set up 64 entry points in the city where 268 policemen have been deployed while barricades were put up at 565 points in the provincial capital to check suspicious people.

An aerial vigilant will also be conducted on the 9th and 10 Muharram in the provincial capital Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu and Dera Ismail Khan.

For ensuring the provision of timely healthcare facilities during Muharram emergency has been declared in Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) by creating six operation theatres, putting 16 ambulances for dealing with any emergency besides deputed 422 persons on high alert.

Multan 

The most ancient and central procession of Southern Punjab will be brought out from Imambargah Mumtazabad in Multan while as many as 80 processions will bring out and 168 majalis will be held in the district.
