MANCHESTER: South Africa were able to finish off their proceedings here at World Cup 2019 in style as they grabbed a 10-run victory against Australia owing to great batting display led by their captain Faf Du Plessis who scored a magnificent century.
Semi-finalists Australia were 10 runs short of the massive target of 326 runs set by South Africa.
David Warner, who has been in an incredible form throughout the World Cup campaign, was once again witnessed slashing his bat all over the stadium as he smashed 122 runs.
However, with no one to accompany him at the other end, his ton did not bear much fruit for the Kangaroos.
Alex Carrey’s quickfire 85 runs off only 69 deliveries gave hope to the chasing side but once again were not enough to seal the deal as the entire team totalled at 315 with a ball to spare.
With this loss, Australia move to second spot on the table, which means that they will have to face hosts England in the semi-finals of World Cup 2019.
