PSX Gains 822 Points As Maryam Appears Before JIT

Karachi (July 5, 2017): The bench 100-Index of Pakistan Stock Exchange gained 822 points as first daughter Maryam Nawaz appeared before the Joint Investigation Team probing the Panama case at Federal Judicial Complex in Islamabad.

The 822-point gain has pushed the 100-Index to 46,216 points level. Positive sentiments prevail at the PSX presently.

It may be mentioned here that the PSX shed 1,900 points at close of the trading day on Monday July 3. The bloodbath was attributed to the as political uncertainty over the JIT probing the Panama case, the report it has to submit to the Supreme Court on July 10, and the decision of the apex court after considerations and deliberations over the JIT’s report.

On Monday, the benchmark index shed 4.08 per cent, falling through the 45,000 level to close at 44,665.41 points. The market recorded the day’s low at 44,639.82 points during the trading session.

However, yesterday PSX closed on a positive note with the gain 728.65 points closing at 45,394.06 points. The gain translated to 1.63 percent of the benchmark Index.

Volumes were primarily led by commercial banking stocks as the benchmark index staged a recovery after yesterday’s 1,900 point massacre.

A total 99.78 million shares changed had hands by the end of the session, with a total worth of nearly Rs7.63 billion.

Stocks of 382 companies were traded, of which 228 gained in value, 131 declined and 23 remained unchanged.
