PTI Leaders Get Bail in 2014 Parliament Attack Case

Islamabad (January 17, 2017): Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Approved pre-arrest bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders  Arif Alvi, Shireen Mazari and Asad Umar in cases of terrorism related to attacks on Parliament, the Pakistan Television officer during PTI’s 2014 sit-in on Wednesday.

ATC Judge Sharukh Arjumand barred the police from arresting the accused and ordered them to submit surety bonds of Rs100, 000 each.

The judge ordered the PTI leaders to appear before the court on January 23.

The case was registered against the PTI leaders after a mob had attacked PTV and Parliament and subjected an SSP to torture during party’s anti-government protest. The protests were launched against the alleged rigging in the general election of 2013 in which the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz emerged victorious and formed the government in the center and Balochistan province.

The PTI and PPP formed the provincial governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh respectively but Imran Khan, PTI chairman, accused the PMLN of manipulating the election results.
