Islamabad (August 13, 2018): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday nominated Dost Mazari for the deputy speaker slot in the Punjab Assembly.
Mazari won election from Punjab Assembly constituency PP-297 Rajanpur-V by securing 56,113 votes.
The party has already nominated Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Pervaiz Elahi for speaker and PTI leader Chaudhry Sarwar would serve as the governor of Punjab.
A session of the Punjab Assembly will take place at 10 am on August 15, Wednesday, in which the newly-elected members will take the oath.
The speaker and deputy speaker of Punjab assembly will be elected on August 16 after which the new chief minister will be elected through secret ballot.
Members of the National Assembly and the other three provincial assemblies took their oath of office earlier today.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has nominated Qasim Khan Suri , MNA from Balochistan, for the slot of National Assembly Deputy Speaker.
The PTI’s nominee for the post of NA speaker, Asad Qaiser, announced Suri’s nomination at a press conference in Islamabad.
“Qasim Suri is from Balochistan and is a member of the PTI,” Qaiser said, adding that he plans to run the day-to-day business of the house diligently and has been in contact with opposition parties in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Suri said that he was grateful for the opportunity provided to him and that his nomination would help curb the sense of deprivation that the people of Balochistan feel.
“Imran Khan has trusted me and we will try to run the NA in an amicable manner,” Suri said.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf’s nominee Asad Qaiser submitted his nomination papers for the slot of the speaker at the national assembly secretariat in Islamabad as the process of submitting nomination papers for the elections of new speaker and deputy speaker of National Assembly has started today.
