PTI Stays Away from Electoral Reforms Body Meeting

Islamabad (July 19, 2017): The meeting of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms started here.

Accoring to the details, the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms has started here in Capital, which is being headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Members of the committee from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf stayed away from the meeting.Sources said that the PTI members boycotted the meeting over committee’s refusal to accept their recommendations.

The meeting is being attended by members of the committee, officials of Election Commission of Pakistan and Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs.The meeting will discuss the draft of Election Bill 2017.

A constitutional amendments bill relating to Election Commission of Pakistan is pending finalization before the committee.

A proposal relating to broadening the criteria for appointment of Chairman and members of the Election Commission is also under consideration of the committee.
