PTI submits adjournment motion in NA over Dawn Leaks

Islamabad (May 11, 2017): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday submitted adjournment motion in National Assembly over Dawn Leaks issue.

The motion submitted to NA Secretariat demanded that the Dawn Leak inquiry reported should be presented in the National Assembly.

The party sought the house debate on the issue by suspending routine business, saying that it was an issue of national security.

It is to be mentioned here that hours after the Dawn Leak issue was settled between Pakistan Army and the government, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman on Wednesday demanded the inquiry report be made public.

In a series of tweets in reaction to the statements over the issue by the Inter-Services Public Relations and the interior ministry, Imran said the issue was about national security, and the nation needs to know what was ‘settled’.

“[The] nation [is being] kept in dark on how national security breach resolved,” he tweeted. “Manner in which Dawn Leaks issue resolved shows clearly there is one law for the powerful & another law for the weak.”

He added: “Inquiry Commission Report must be made public.”

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Army’s chief spokesman Maj-General Asif Ghafoor had said in an exclusive press conference that some elements had deliberately tried to create rift between the civil and military leadership. He said that whatever happened after his tweet on the Dawn Leaks’ notification was regrettable.

Before the press conference, the Army through a formal press release withdrew the tweet of April 29 rejecting Prime Minister’s directives on Dawn Leak’s inquiry report.

Army also reiterated its firm commitment and continued resolve to uphold the country’s Constitution and support the democratic process.
