PTI’s counsel faces tough questions of SC bench during Panamagate hearing

ISLAMABAD: The larger bench of the Supreme Court hearing Panamagate case on Monday asked some pointed questions from PTI counsel Naeem Bukhari, with a member of the bench remarked while directly addressing the counsel: “We asked 16 questions, but you answered none. Bukhari Sahib you need to satisfy the bench not media.”

On Monday the larger bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the Panamagate case.

At the very outset of the hearing, PTI’s lead counsel Naeem Bukhari read out the purported confessional statement of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. Upon this, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan asked the counsel to explain the confessional status of the statement.

In his arguments, Bokhari said that Nawaz Sharif had received an overall Rs810 million from Hussain Nawaz as gift, arguing that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) must have questioned the Prime Minister about the nature of his son business.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that if the money was transferred through banking channel then no question or objection arises. To which Bukhari said that the money was laundered out of the country through ‘Hundi’ and was resent through banking channel.

During the hearing, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh remarked: “Bukhari Sahib we asked 16 legal questions from you and you answered none. It seems you are netting fish in the water. You need to satisfy us instead of media.”  At this point, the presiding judge Asif Saeed Khosa remarked;” Bukhari Sahin you are in a haste to conclude the case but we will not allow you to go until we are satisfied.”
