Notice Issued on Qureshi Acquittal Plea in PTV Case

Islamabad (December 06, 2018): The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued notices to prosecution on the petition filed by the accused Shah Mehmood Qureshi seeking his acquittal from the case.

According to details, the judge of ATC Islamabad Kausar Abbas Zaidi listened to the case pertaining to the attack at PTV and Parliament House in 2014 during the PTI sit-in.

Four Federal Ministers including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umer, Pervez Khattak, Shafqat Mehmood and senior leader Jahangir Khan Tareen filed exemption plea for the hearing which the court accepted and summoned them for next hearing.

In September, the ATC had granted Prime Minister Imran Khan permanent exemption from appearing before it in the cases.The prime minister and other party leaders, including Umar and Qureshi, are accused of attacking the Parliament and PTV office during the 2014 sit-in in Islamabad.

The PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leaders were booked after they marched towards the Parliament and PM House during the 2014 sit-in, in an attempt to topple the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government after the Model Town incident. They also clashed with policemen along their way.

The ATC has adjourned the hearing till December 10.
