LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sent the petition seeking dissolution of the new Punjab Local Government Act 2019 to a larger bench for hearing.
PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz moved the petition in the LHC to annul the incumbent Punjab local government act 2019.
The petition draft by the Daniyal Aziz says local government act is the clear violation of section 140-A and 32 of the constitution. The petition argues that the new local govt act has desecrated the voters by terminating all local representatives.
“Any law or executive order which purports to dissolve a sitting local government is violative of letter and spirit of Article 140-A of the Constitution,” states the petition.
Additional Advocate general Asif Cheema has requested the court to reject the petition as legislation is the right of government.
The court after listening arguments from both parties has sent the petition to LHC larger bench for hearing.
