Punjab: Rains Cause Havoc, Child Among 7 killed

Lahore (July 12, 2017): Seven people including a child were killed in various rain-related incidents as heavy rains continue causing havoc across Punjab province like in many other areas of the country.

The roads, streets, boulevards, and by-lanes wear the looks of steam, ponds, lakes, and rivers.

Rain water entered the houses across entire localities in many cities and areas within those cities. The residents of the low laying areas are the worst sufferers with homes inundated by as much as two feet of water.

Two separate incidents of roof collapse took lives of six people including a mother and her son and daughter. Three people were also injured including another son and a daughter of the deceased mother.

Meanwhile, six people including a mother, daughter, and son and another mother and her daughter and son died and another three were injured in two separate rain-related roof-collapse incidents here.

A mother, daughter, and son died while another son and a daughter were injured  when the roof of dilapidated house caved near Nawab Chowk here.

The dead are identified as 45-year-old Rehana, 14-year-old Abdullah, and 10-year-old Mehak. The deceased mother’s other two children- 22-year-old Komal and her brother were taken to the hospital.

According to Rescue sources the roof of the house was in extremely bad condition after the heavy rains yesterday.

In another roof-collapse incident that occurred in Jhangi area killed a mother, daughter and son. Another daughter of the deceased woman was also injured.

In Gujrat, a three-year-old child fell and drowned in a nullah in Kanjah area after her mother slipped . The Rescue teams are trying to recover the body. People are facing immense hardships and problems due to inaundating of roads including Jinnah Road, Nawabzada Chowk, Jail Road, Purah Road, and Rahman Shaheed Road.

The heavy rains have also caused havoc in Jhelum and surroundings. The inundating of roads and low laying areas are causing immense problems for the people while the traffic flow has also been severely effected.

The roads and streets of Sialkot wears the looks of ponds and lakes.
