Riyadh (May 22, 2017): Pakistan former army chief General Raheel Sharif remained in the centre of attention at the US-Arab-Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia.
The former general, who is heading the “Muslim Nato”, a fledgling military alliance of mostly Sunni Islamic states led by Saudi Arabia, is also attending the US-Arab-Islamic Summit.
General Raheel was seen sitting in the conference hall with son-in-law of US President Donald Trump. Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman was also sitting with them.
Raheel Sharif is first commander-in-chief of the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism (IMAFT), a proposed coalition of 39 countries that will have its headquarters in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The IMAFT was announced in late 2015 as a foil against Islamic State and terrorism in general but it has not been supported by Iran, Saudi Arabia’s regional nemesis.
