Railways Case, Saad’s Counsel Submits Reply To Audit Para.

Lahore (December 26, 2018): Counsel of the under arrest Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Khawaja Saad Rafique has submitted a reply to the Audit Paragraph to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Railways Losses Case today.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed the hearing of railway’s losses case at Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry today where Khawaja Saad was produced before the court in the custody of Accountability Watchdogs (NAB).

Lawyer of the PML-N Leader asserted that the Audit Paragraph showed no clue which may confirm the corruption charges or any sort of irregularities.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked, “But the losses are there, Aren’t they?”
“These are not ‘losses’, these are mere deficits that have been occurred for the last 65 years”, replied Saad’s counsel.Nonetheless, Supreme Court ordered the Auditor General and Federal Government to submit a rejoinder to Saad Rafique’ presented answer in the next hearing of the case.

Earlier on December 13, Supreme Court of Pakistan adjourned the hearing of Railways losses case till December 26 (today) against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique.

Khawaja Saad Rafique appeared before Supreme Court of Pakistan in the infamous Railways losses case. The PML-N  Leader was produced before the Supreme court in handcuffs.

A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice heard the case against the member of National Assembly Saad Rafique, sources said.

During the hearing, Saad Rafique informed the bench that as he received the court’s summoning order last night, he hired the services of Advocate Kamran Murtaza.He added his lawyer is in Quetta and hence, couldn’t appear before the court today.
To a question when his counsel will be available, he said he didn’t know as he was in NAB custody.

Nonetheless, Supreme Court put off the hearing till Dec 26.

On December 11, officials from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested  Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique after Lahore High Court rejected their bail plea in Paragon Housing Society scam.

“The court’s decision confirmed substantive evidence against NAB suspects,” the accountability watchdog spokesperson said.

The Railways Losses Case

On April 7, the top judge had taken a Suo Motu notice of alleged Rs. 60 billion corruption in the Pakistan Railways. The top judge had also summoned railways minister, secretary and board members along with the audit report.

A week later, the apex court had ordered the complete audit of Pakistan Railways during the case hearing.

During the case’s hearing on April 28, the Supreme Court sought a report on the losses incurred by Pakistan Railways. The report found that losses of Pakistan Railways stand at Rs. 40 billion.
