Railways To Have Modern Tracking System: Sheikh Rasheed

Islamabad (September 07, 2018): Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Friday said that Railways will soon be developed as a modern organization offering facilities to everyone.

While talking to the newsmen after inaugurating a plant nursery at Margalla Railway Station Islamabad.

The Minister said a modern tracking system will be introduced in Railways and distance between Lahore and Rawalpindi will be reduced up to three and a half hours.He said passenger trains will also be plied on branch lines of Railways as well.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said Railways will have a key role in the success of CPEC and full cooperation will be sought from China to improve the condition of Railways.

The Minister said four nurseries each are being developed at all divisional headquarters of Railways and trees will also be planted on both sides of railway tracks.Earlier on September 02, one-day tree plantation campaign kicked off across the country.

Prime Minister Imran Khan formally launched the “10 Billion Tree Tsunami” by planting a sapling in District Haripur.

Plant for Pakistan is part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)  government’s billion tree Tsunami 2018 drive.

The purpose of the campaign is to encourage people, communities, organizations, business and industry, civil society and government to collectively plant trees.

As a part of the initiative, people will be given free saplings at 190 distribution points across the country.

Climate change is one of the main issues that Prime Minister Imran’s government aims to tackle through initiatives like tree plantation.The country-wide tree plantation drive comes after the PTI-led provincial government in Khyber Pukhtunkwa executed a large-scale tree-planting project during its previous tenures.

According to experts, Pakistan is facing enormous environmental challenges.

A survey conducted by the  Sustainable Development Policy Institute ahead of the 2018 poll found that respondents prioritized three key environmental issues: rising temperatures, water shortages, and air pollution.

Earlier on August 30, Pakistan Navy started plantation campaign at Margalla Hills. Naval chief, Admiral Zafar Abbasi inaugurated the campaign, by planting a tree at Margalla Hills.Pak Navy Starts Plantation Campaign At Margalla HillsAccording to Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Abbasi, 100,000 trees were planted in first phase.

Admiral Zafar Abbasi said that environmental pollution is affecting citizens of Karachi, while, in Northern areas as well, trees shouldn’t be turned into fuel. He also expressed his idea of planting 2 million mangroves in coastal areas.

Third phase of planting trees will start from July 15 to September 15. While, last phase will begin in 2020, from February 15 to April 15.
