Rao Anwar To Be Presented Before ATC Today

Karachi (April 21, 2018): Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar will be produced before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi as his 30-day physical remand expires today (Saturday).

The police has arrested 12 accused in the case including Rao Anwar and 10 of the accused were brought to the ATC today. 13 more policemen including SHOs Irfan Ullah Marwat and Shoaib Shooter are still at large.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) formed under the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan has held former Malir SSP Rao Anwar Ahmed Khan responsible for killing Naqeebullah Mehsud and three others in a “fake encounter” in Karachi on January 13.

A JIT member said on the condition of anonymity that the investigation team has “held Rao Anwar guilty of killing an innocent person in a fake encounter”.AbbTakk has learnt that the JIT, which was led by Additional IG Dr Aftab Pathan, has submitted its findings before the competent authority.

The family of the victim, a 27-year-old aspiring model hailing from South Waziristan Naqeeb Ullah Mehsud, and members of jirga have arrived in the court to witness the hearing.

Strict security arrangements have been made outside the court and additional contingent have been deployed.

Case History:

Naqeeb along with three others was killed in an ‘encounter’ with a police team headed by Rao Anwar in the Usman Khaskheli Goth on the outskirts of the metropolis on January 13.

Anwar, after absconding in the case since late January, was arrested on the Supreme Court’s orders on March 28 after he finally appeared in court and later transported to Karachi.

The very next day, an anti-terrorism court sent Rao Anwar on physical remand till April 21 over registering fake FIR against Naqeeb Ullah Mehsud and his friends.
